Adorning the northern banks of River Thames, what we see today is the modern version of the Old Palace, the main government building, the home of the Parliament of the United Kingdom, which was destroyed in a fire in 1834. The New Palace which was designed to replace the old one consisted of a clock tower and an impressive palace.
The design of the New Palace was awarded to Sir Charles Barry and he came up with a perpendicular Gothic, a Neo-Gothic, style structure which incorporated some of the remains of the Old Palace. These two celebrated architects came up with one of the most stunning structures which boasts intricate masonry. They also utilized its lovely setting by the River Thames and changed the landscape of London city forever.
