Big Air Jumping Stilts Are Coming To A Block Near You

They seem to lope along like some type of prehistoric ‘raptor’ as they move down a side street.  Suddenly the Air-Trekker bounds into the air traveling some 10 – 15 feet in a single leap.  The explosion of action continues as the jumping stilt pedestrian flies past and down the street.  You have just experienced what many in Europe see daily – true high speed mobility on a pair of 21st century, jumping stilts.

Invented by a German engineer in the late 90’s, jumping stilts are now taking claim as the newest and fastest growing of the recent extreme sports developments.  Perhaps you have seen them on your television screen in the cutting edge Zurich insurance commercials.  Sittings of these unusual devices will significantly increase across North American over the next 6 months as suppliers search for them.

Air-trekkers look like bionic leg attachments but their simplicity and ease of use are the hallmark of the Air-Trekkers (www.air-trekkers.com) brand of jumping stilts.  Alpine Innovations, an authorized US supplier of this patented invention and trademarked brand, believes Air-Trekkers are considered by many to be the best quality and safest of this new wave of equipment. Although air-trekker travelers are 18 to 24 inches higher with their springs on, they quickly find that they are very stable in their movements.

Many who own Air-Trekkers are now preparing for one of the most unique sporting events ever held: The 2008 Big Air Challenge.  Gary Armstrong, a former track-man and founder of Alpine Innovations, is the driving force behind the first- ever Big Air World Challenge.  “Our events are designed around self-expression.  We want to see creativeness, freedom of expression, and unique environments!!!!”   The extreme sports world will now experience the world’s first “cyber” air-trekking meet in the form of the Big Air Challenge which will be held in early summer 2008.

The X Games had a similar birth spurred on by a motivated patchwork of extreme sports events and devotees. Once thought of as a curious exhibition, the X Games grew rapidly and ultimately created several new Olympic events led by snow boarding. Although it may seem remote at this time, one could ultimately see some type of adaptation of certain Big Air Challenge events in future X games. With the skyrocketing interest in Jumping stilts, led by Alpine Innovations in North America, it may only be a matter of time before TV watchers on ESPN see\Air-trekkers fly across their TV screens.
