Ahh..its time to go to the gym for your daily workout- but you ask yourself this question first: Should I have a bite to eat before I go or wait until later? Some fitness programs recommend that the most optimum time to work out is early morning before you have eaten. Many people try this particular fitness regime thinking it helps them to lose weight more effectively in comparison to eating before they workout. Contrary to this fashion- eating prior to the workout actually burns more calories throughout the day.

The trick here is to eat- but more importantly eat a healthy meal prior to your workout.

Eating prior to your fitness regime increases the amount of oxygen you consume during a 24 hour period. This helps your body burn more calories during the course of the day and can help you shed a bit of those extra storage cells (fat cells). This is compared to the plan that recommends you eating after a workout which does not increase metabolism or fat burning abilities throughout the day.

Healthy eating

The quality of your meal is important to your fitness plan. Consuming sugar based food or things with high calorie levels would prove counterproductive to a morning workout. Make sure that your diet consists of the appropriate calorie levels for your workout.

If your fitness plan is intense or endures for a long period of time, you will need to ensure that you eat enough to prevent low blood sugar. This is another reason why eating prior to your workout is essential. Low blood sugar can lead to fatigue and sluggishness that may prevent you from getting your optimal workout.

Your diet may consist of items such as toast with peanut butter, bananas and fruits, yogurt, granola bars or even meal replacement shakes. Food stuffs such as these are low calorie, but have many of the essential minerals and vitamins to help keep your body functioning correctly. A healthy diet is an important part of any fitness plan and should be consistently maintained throughout your life.

Timing is essential

When to eat- that is the question. Timing is everything when meal time comes. Putting your lunch on hold and simply waiting till dinner can lead to more problems than it may seem. If it is meal time, stop and eat- or you may find yourself eating far more at a later time. This can create an offset on your calorie intake. Waiting until dinner time to eat one large meal for the day can leave all your calories unused and therefore begin to gather in your body again. These situations can lead to low blood sugar during the day as well. Eating a healthy diet is important, but when to eat is vital to keeping your body functioning correctly during your fitness regime.

A healthy meal prior to your gym appointment is a key element for not only helping to lose weight, but also to keeping your body healthy. Working your body harder without fuel can be harmful and far less effective. Put a little fuel in your tanks before you hit the track, and youll be able to work out harder and get your body and mind fit.
