Hives are nothing but a sign of an allergic reaction and are basically harmless if thats the only symptoms your child is having. Hives look like mosquito bites and cause a great deal of itching on the skin.

Medications- like antibiotics- penicillin- used in the cure of arthritis and sulfa drugs
Infections- especially viral infection

Treatments for hives
As a matter of fact, some of the hives are caused by chemical histamine, it is quite obvious that you would treat them with the anti histamine medication.
A child might need doses of steroid to treat his episode of hives. Other treatments can sometime include the doxepin. The best treatment for hives is to avoid getting exposed to things that can cause hives.

Home treatment for Hives
Add a few drops of grapefruit seed extract in a teaspoon of vegetable oil or olive oil. Apply this mixture over the affected area for eliminating hives.
The popular and efficient way to treat hives would be a cool showers or bath.
Apply Vitamin E oil on the affected area.
Add a tablespoon of oatmeal in a cup of boiling water. Apply the mixture over the affected area for half an hour.

Some facts about hives
Hives are not considered chronic unless they last longer than 6 weeks or so.
If no cause can be found for your childs hives then its considered as idiopathic hives
Individual hives are also considered as welts or wheals
A pediatric dermatologist or pediatric allergist is the person one shall look to be consulting to treat the case of hives of different attributes.
