Best Natural Home Cures For Fever Blisters

By:

Fever blisters or cold sores are painful and unsightly. They can cause you not only discomfort but embarrassment as well. Anyone who has ever had a cold sore can tell you how awful they feel and how little medical science has been able to do, to effectively treat cold sores. In fact, many home remedies seem to have a greater impact on reducing the swelling, pain and duration of cold sores than anything the doctor may prescribe. While not every treatment will work for everyone, most natural home remedies for cold sores will provide at least some relief and at least one should prove effective in lessening the duration of your cold sore.

As with any remedy, home remedies work most effectively when used at the first sign of a cold sore rather than waiting until the sore has already developed. Starting these remedies at the first sign of tingling or burning around the mouth or on the lips may not stop a fever blister from developing but it can and often does shorten the duration of the blister.

Ice- Ice is the cheapest and possibly the most effective treatment for a fever blister. When applied immediately upon the first sign of tingling and burning, ice can and often does limit how much the developing fever blister will spread. There are also those people who claim that using ice immediately can prevent the fever blister from appearing at all. Others claim that applying ice immediately can stop the fever blister from fully developing and thus make it disappear faster without the unsightly blistering and scabbing.

Whether these claims are true or not, ice will reduce swelling and ease the pain of a fever blister and it does keep it from spreading. You should not apply ice to your fever blister for more than 15 minutes at a time.
Tea Bags- Another home remedy that seems to be quite effective in the pain and shortening the duration of a fever blister is applying a warm tea bag to the blister. The tea contains tannin which provides certain healing properties and helps the fever blister to heal faster.

Garlic and Oregano Oil

Once a fever blister had broken over and crusted, it is important to keep the scab from cracking as repeated cracking will slow the healing process. Garlic and Oregano oil will not only prevent the scab from cracking but will also soak through the scab and deposit healing properties right to the sore itself thus helping the sore to heal.

Aloe Vera-The Aloe Vera plant has long been known for it's healing properties, applying aloe gel fresh from the Aloe Vera plant can provide fast healing of the fever blister.

Lemon Balm Extract- applied to a fever blister will sooth the pain and also will help accelerate the healing process.

Honey- Honey contains both antibiotic and antiviral properties. When placed on a fever blister the antiviral properties will help fight the herpes virus and the antibiotic properties can help prevent the area from becoming infected.
There are many home remedies that will help to fight fever blisters. There is at least one of these remedies that may prove effective for you.
