If you can't find a local course, however (not all areas of the country have people who offer dog massage courses), you can find good courses online. Online courses typically take only a few hours, and in no time you could be on your way to starting a lucrative home business. There are also DVD courses available that are more affordable, however some people would rather have one-on-one help when they need it.

No matter where you take your course, there are some things you should look for. Here are some things to consider before signing up for any course:

--Why do you need the course? Do you just want to learn how to massage your own dog, or do you want to become certified to massage other dogs and go into business? Make certain the course you take meets your needs.

--How much is the fee? Depending on what you want to do, you could end up spending more than $1,000 if you want certification to start your own dog massage business. The courses last several sessions and include hands on activities. Some courses are online, some are onsite. If you are looking for certification, expect to pay several hundreds dollars. At present there are no state regulations governing the licensing or certification of canine massage therapists. However, if you want to start a business, being certified in canine massage is helpful.

--Who is the instructor? You don't have to take a course from a veterinarian, but it's a good idea to make certain your course is being offered by someone with lots of experience and training and canine massage therapy.
