Best Destinations To Consider For Safaris In Tanzania This Year

By:

So, its start of the New Year now, and that means it's little time to look back on the best bits of 2010. For me, there have been many exciting moments, many of which have happened during my quite frequent safari trips around Tanzania. Due to my many trips, I have had a chance to get to know the best destinations for even the most adventurous traveler to Tanzania for safari holidays. Here are the highlight destinations of 2010 Tanzania safari. The recommendations are these top spots can still quench the adventure thirst for anyone taking Tanzania flights for safari holiday.

Ngorongoro Conservation Area
The Ngorongoro Crater remains as ever an amazing place to visit. From Olduvai Gorge, the possible root of human existence, to the amazing crater floor and its abundance of animals, to the crater itself - the 2,000 foot high rim which stretches all the way around to offer a fantastic view!

Selous Game Reserve
Selous is the largest park of its kind in the world, and although it may be a bit more 'challenging' to spot wildlife there, this can also make each sighting much more special and unique. One of the rarer African safari animals, the wild dog can also be spotted in this reserve every now and again, so keeping your eye out for these is a must!

Serengeti National Park
The Serengeti is the classic Tanzania safari destination! Not only does this park have a huge variety of wildlife, which is spread among its masses of flat and plain scenic terrain, but it is also home to the great wildebeest migration, which sees numbers of around 2 million wildebeest make their way to the neighbouring Masai Mara National Reserve for fresh grazing plains. The migration this year was fantastic, and I got to see one of the natural wonders of the world in all its glory!

Ruaha National Park
Ruaha National Park is the second largest national park in Tanzania. It covers an area of about 12950 sq km. Ruaha National Park is where eastern and southern African have met together and many species of fauna and flora overlap. In the dry season, July to November, the river is an excellent place for observing large numbers of game including lions, leopards, hunting dogs, giraffe, waterbuck, eland and warthogs. This park is remote, unspoiled, untamed and rarely visited. With few lodges and tourists in the park, each group on safari has the impression of having the whole of Africa to themselves.

Lake Manyara National Park
Although it is one of Tanzanias smaller wildlife enclaves, Lake Manyara National Park is a spectacular reserve that boasts an incredible diversity of terrain, as well as plant and animal species. Established specifically to protect the elephant herds that have made this area world renowned, the park provides an excellent and varied wildlife experience. An incredible array of habitats, as well as a wealth of biodiversity, is crammed into a relatively small area in the Park. Apart from the elephants, Lake Manyara is famous for tree-climbing lions, as well as the thousands of flamingos that inhabit the lake shore. Large herds of buffalo, cheetah, Maasai giraffe, hippo and impala can be encountered.
