What you see Enter Love & Mustard restaurant in DLF City at Gurgaon, and the heady aroma of fragrant candles hits you. The small room has walls painted in neat white, with splashes of colors thrown in through strategically placed accessories. Colorful silk covered cushions catch your eye in this 35-seater restaurant. Calcutta photos dominate the two walls, announcing their presence. Theres a long queue of people waiting to be seated. We are lucky to have booked a table.

What you get - Known and well-liked for its Bengali cuisine, Love & Mustard also serves Persian, Anglo-Indian, Jewish and Armenian cuisine. The restaurant is particularly known for its Kathi rolls and Ghugni (dried yellow peas based gravy) and Calcutta- style biryani (light in flavor and comes with potato), apart from Shukto (mixed vegetables) and Charchari (dry char flavoured vegetable dish).

We started with Lebu Cha (Rs. 30), which was spiced lemon tea. Soft drinks are also available. For starters we chose Begun Bhaja (Rs. 55) which had crisp deep-fried aubergine slices coated with besan flour. The best part about the dish was definitely the side serving of a spicy mustard sauce which was finger-licking good! We also tried our hands on Alu Posto (Rs. 100) which was served with a heart-content portion of four tiny puffy luchchis or puris (Rs. 50). For the main course, we ordered a non-vegetarian thali (Rs 150) which included a drab colored saag, triangular paranthas, Channa dal and two kinds of sabzis. The highlight of the thali was Kosha Mangsho (Rs. 250) which was a juicy mutton dish marinated with a good portion of thick yogurt along with garlic and ginger.

Our dessert for the day featured Zarda (Rs. 110) a creamy rice serving mixed with jiggery, and Phirni (Rs. 75) which was akin to Kheer, apparently known to be a legacy from Persia (as the menu states).

Our verdict Love & Mustard is a great place for afternoon lunches, if you are looking for some pocket-friendly authentic delectable Bengali food. This is a Wi-fi enabled restaurant with added services like take away, catering, happy hours on snacks (during special occasions) and live music. The staff is helpful and the service is decent enough. Chefs wear black pants and shirt with a black cap which sports the green and yellow logo of Love & Mustard and waiters sport flashy bandanas as a tribute to the legends of rock and metal bands of Calcutta. Parking space is available.

What you pay for a meal for two Rs. 350-500
