Products Manufacturers Association surveyed businesses allowing companion animals in the workplace and confirmed the benefits:

73 percent of the companies surveyed said pets create a more productive
27 percent reported a decrease in employee absenteeism.
73 percent indicated pets led to a more creative work environment.
96 percent said pets created positive work relations.
58 percent of employees stayed late with pets in the office.
Before you leash up your dog, there are a couple of things you will want to consider:

First check with your company about their pet policies and what procedures you will need to follow.
Second make sure your dog is friendly, healthy and acclimated to the outside world.

Third would be to schedule potty breaks and food breaks. A good rule of thumb would be that dogs relieve themselves after eating, sleeping, and exercising. The more breaks you can give your dog the better, but if not try to make sure he goes before you get to work, mid morning, after lunch, mid afternoon, and before you leave to go home. This will also give your dog a chance to stretch his legs. When it comes to eating most adult dogs only need to eat in morning and evening depending on their activity level.

Finally, you would want to think about treats and toys. Bringing treats and toys with you would be a good way to reward your dog for good behavior while keeping him occupied. You will also want to think about bringing a small blanket or pet bed to keep if you have the space so that your dog has a comfortable place to rest.

How happy your dog and you are working together depends on many different factors. Office jobs, outdoor work, and self employment all bring different challenges to making sure you and your dog are content. Always planning ahead for these challenges will make things go much smoother.
