Benefits Of Salt Water Pools

By:

A type of pool that has gained popularity over the last several years is the salt water pool. Traditionally, the most common type of pool installed by homeowners was the chlorine pool. While chlorine pools can be enjoyable, the chemicals in the pool can make it uncomfortable for some swimmers and maintenance can also be expensive. Salt water pools, however, offer a more comfortable swimming environment and can be easier and cheaper to maintain. Because of the advantages salt water pools offer, many homeowners have opted to convert their exiting swimming pool to a salt water pool or install a salt water pool from the beginning.

Salt Water Pools Cost Less -

Salt water pools cost less than chlorine pools. Chlorine pools require the addition of chlorine tablets to the water, and these tablets can cost upwards of $60 or more per bucket. The use of chlorine tablets is essential to the cleanliness of a chlorine pool. Salt water pools work a bit differently because they do not require the addition of chlorine to the water. While it may seem that chlorine pools would be more sanitary, this is not the case. Pools containing salt water use an electrical charge to split the salt into sodium and chloride. This electrical system basically creates chlorine by changing the chloride into a gas, which then dissolves into the pool's water. Through this process, the pool is sanitized without the addition of chlorine tablets.

More Comfortable -

Some people tend to find the smell of chlorinated water quite offensive, others prefer the salt alternative as chlorine at times can be quite irritating to the skin. Furthermore, chlorine can be an ear and respiratory system irritant as well. Because pools that use salt do not require the addition of chlorine tablets, the pH levels are increased. This translates into water that does not irritate the skin or cause burning, itching, or drying. Swimming in these pools is more comfortable, and the chlorine odour is reduced dramatically.

Less Maintenance -

Homeowners can spend less time making efforts to maintain their pool and more time enjoying it when they choose the salt alternative versus a chlorine pool. One of the reasons is that chlorine is supplied to the pool though the electrical system therefore pool owners don't need to worry about having regularly add chlorine to the water. Salt will need to be added to the water from time to time, but the comprehensive care required of a these pools is minimal compared to a chlorine pool.
