Benefits Of Prescription Swim Goggles

By:

It may appear at first that only serious swimmers would want to invest in a pair of prescription swim goggles. However, there are many reasons to purchase a pair, whether you wear contact lenses or glasses, swim in the ocean, the community pool, or a freshwater lake.

Some people who wear glasses face quite a conundrum when it comes to water activities such as swimming, wading, playing with the kids in the pool, or snorkeling. Without them, the first option is to not wear the glasses, but then obviously you would not be able to see. The other option is to keep the glasses on while in the water, but then you face the relentless chore of trying to keep the lenses dry, and hoping the glasses do not fall off and break or get lost. A lot of people might not be aware of their third option, which is to acquire a pair.

Although people who wear contact lenses may think that prescription swim goggles are not meant for them, they might want to do a little research and reconsider. The chlorine that keeps pool water sanitary can also damage contact lenses, and therefore the eyes. Chlorine dries the contacts, making them prone to tearing, or difficult to remove. Contact lenses also trap molecules of chlorine which can irritate the eyes, and even cause corneal infections. With them swimmers can leave their contacts safely in the case and not have to worry.

When shopping for a pair, there are a few things to consider. First of all, are used to be manufactured with what is called a step diopter option. This means that you can pick a prescription range closest to your prescription. With step diopter prescription swim goggles, you will see better, but not perfectly.

Modern technology has brought about a second option, called a custom goggle. Just like the name suggests, a custom goggle will be specially manufactured with your exact prescription. Most people will function fine with a step diopter prescription swim goggle, but anyone with an extremely strong prescription or astigmatism will definitely want a custom goggle. Of course the price difference between the two types is not that great, so you might decide that you want your exact prescription anyway.

Mostly all prescription swim goggles these days come equipped with ultra violet ray protection. However, it is a good idea to double check this fact instead of assuming. You also want to make sure that they have a watertight seal. This depends mostly on fitting them to the unique size and shape of your head. An adjustable head strap and bridge are essential, but you might want to select a manufacturer who asks for head measurements. This way your prescription swim goggles are most likely to fit best and keep water out of the eyes.
