Benefits Of Meditation

Meditation: Welcome to Learning Meditation. I hesitate to use the word meditation. To me, as well as many others, the word "meditation" conjures up the picture of a bearded man sitting cross-legged in front of an entrance to a cave or high on a mountain top. With the hectic pace and demands of modern life, many people feel stressed and over-worked. It often feels like there is just not enough time in the day to get everything done. Meditation is no longer considered to be a new age or eastern practice where you get into an uncomfortable position for hours at a time and chant a mantra which has no apparent connection to your life or your condition. Meditation is an intensely personal and spiritual experience. The desired purpose of each meditation technique is to channel normal waking consciousness into a more positive direction by totally transforming one's state of mind.
It is said that the deeper the meditation, the deeper would be the healing. The mind and body are intimately connected, and the relationship of the mind to the body in meditation is very interesting
There are so many advantages to meditation. When I first originally thought of this post, I indeed wanted to make it 100 benefits long (think big right!), however, I wasnt sure I could find more than perhaps 20-25 benefits.
Meditation helps to reduce stress by teaching us to switch off from the worries that can plague us through the day.
Numerous studies have shown that meditation has health benefits. Some people are even of the opinion that it is impossible to control your thoughts. However, the art of meditation teaches that, not only is it possible to control our thoughts, but, we can learn to stop them completely.
Authentic meditation enables one to focus on the present moment rather than dwell on the unchangeable past or undetermined future.
The theoretical explanation for the effects of meditation and relaxation techniques is that the release of catecholamine and other stress hormones are reduced and parasympathetic activity is increased.
Meditation is not necessarily a religious practice, but because of its spiritual element it forms an integral part of most religions.
