Bejewelled Indian

There is no comparison of Indian jewellery and I love wearing them. Umrao Jaan was the movie when Vijay (Golecha) designed jewellery for us, since then I fell in love with his designs. I am very happy with the fact that Golecha is also in Mumbai now" said yesteryear beauty Shabana Azmi while inaugurating the 'Golecha Jewels' store in Mumbai at Turner Road, Bandra.

The legendry actor has always been sensitive to the environment and believes in planting a tree rather than cutting ribbons. It was her idea to inaugurate the showroom by watering a plant."The ribbon has nothing to with our tradition", she said and later lit the brass lamp too, inside the showroom. Shabana's sense of style is extremely traditional and she wore a complete Indian look on the occasion, looking stunning in a beige coloured sari with subtle golden zari work accessorized with a green jadao necklace and a marigold flower tied predominantly in her neatly done hair.

Vijay and Sandeep Golecha, the owners of the store, always dreamt of designing traditional jewellery and realised their dream in 1994 with their first store in Jaipur. Now Golecha Jewels is also available in Mumbai and Amby Vally, Pune. The collection includes stunning pieces of rose cut and uncut diamonds, pearls, rubies and emeralds.

Mr. Vijay Golecha said at the occasion, "As we unveil our first showroom in Mumbai, it's a memorable moment of glory. There is a huge demand of traditional as well as contemporary jewellery here, so Mumbai is a main market for us. I hope we would be successful in catering the demands of the customer over here also."

Without any doubt one could easily say that Indian traditional jewellery has its own essence and Golecha specializes in that. Their designs were seen for the very first time in 'Umrao Jaan', later in 'Drona' and for Dimple Kapadia in the movie 'Luck By Chance'. Recently Golecha is sponsoring jewellery for a movie by Ashutosh Gowarikar.

The store ambiance is a mix of traditional and contemporary style. The interior is done in metallic with black shadow boxes enhancing the shine and colour of the displayed jewellery pieces. Shabana spent some time in the store interacting with the Golecha family, and also purchased a beautiful Jadao necklace for herself. She has been in news recently because of her upcoming movie for which she had to gain 30 pounds and now she is on strict diet to lose those extra pounds.
