Being Successful After You've Had Weight Loss Surgery

By:

Gastric bypass surgery is a tool that can be used by individuals that are morbidly obese to lose a large amount of weight. Usually surgeons require you to 100 pounds overweight before they will perform weight loss surgery. If you have severe obesity related conditions, they may loosen these restrictions. But many of the advertisements make it seem like you have the surgery, the weight drops off and life goes on and this will be the case, if you are willing to work at being successful.

The most important tip I can give you is to learn everything you can about the surgery, the bariatric diet and what it takes to be successful. Many people have already had this surgery. There are some that people that have gotten to their goal weight and some that have struggled. There are forums and support groups full of these people and most of them will be willing to tell you what they think made them successful and where they think they made their mistakes.

Many insurance companies and bariatric surgery centers require you to take classes that will prepare you for the surgery, teach you about the diet and what it takes to be successful afterwards. Read books about healthy eating and exercise. Also, get information on food addiction and emotional eating. If you are 100 pounds overweight, you may not think you are a food addict. There is a good chance you are in denial about this.

Knowledge is power and this is your best tool. Start changing unhealthy habits and replace them with healthy behaviors. Do not wait until you have had your surgery before you begin changing. The more you can do prior to your surgery to make the necessary lifestyle changes, the better off you will be. You can reach the goals you set for yourself, but they will not come without work.
