Being Prepared With Wrench Sets And Screwdriver Sets

By:

One of the most prominent behaviors separating highly intelligent organisms from the rest of the animal kingdom is the use of tools. So, how intelligent will you feel when you buy a nice, new bookshelf, take it home, and realize you don't even have the tools to put it together? Being intelligent enough to buy a decent set of tools is just as important as being intelligent enough to use tools.

Growing up, you probably counted on your family's set of tools there in the garage, but when you move out, you'll soon enough find yourself realizing how truly handy some good tools can be. If you've ever found yourself using a steak knife as an improvised (and dangerous) screwdriver or wire stripper, it's time to get yourself some basic tools.

So, what exactly do you need? Well, the more tools you have, the better equipped you'll be to handle any situation that arises, but a pretty simple selection of a few good tools should be enough to tackle most tasks. Visit the hardware store, and you'll find a huge selection of hammers, drills, socket sets, paintbrushes, screwdriver sets, shovels, ladders, axes, and wrench sets. You obviously don't need everything out there, but there are some must-haves for your basic tool set.

You'll want a tape measure, a hammer, some flathead and Phillips screwdrivers, needle-nose pliers, and an adjustable crescent wrench at the very least. (If you can, go ahead and get a decent set of wrenches or sockets in various sizes. You'll never regret it. It's much more convenient to grab the right wrench or socket and get a job done rather than always having to fiddle around with an adjustable crescent wrench.)

You don't need to get the nicest tools available, but you should definitely avoid the cheap sets you'll find. A cheap tool won't stand the test of time and won't be nearly as comfortable and effective to use as a good tool from a reputable manufacturer. You don't need to buy everything at once either. Start with a few vital items and then add to your set over the years as you take care of a wider variety of tasks.

Consider keeping your tools in the trunk of your car. This way, you'll have access to them at home, on the road, or pretty much anywhere you find yourself. From tightening loose screws on the bathroom door handle to putting together new office furniture at work, you'll be able to take care of all the little projects that come your way.
