Being Prepared For Your Child's Ballet Classes

By:

What little girl doesn't love to dance? You turn on a bit of upbeat music and they practically start dancing without even realizing it. Since the love of dance is already ingrained in their system, why not use that love of dancing to teach them coordination, balance, and discipline. Ballet is a form of dance that teaches all of these things. It is also fun for them and since dancing is healthy physical activity. Plus, they get to wear tutus and ballet slippers; they get to be princesses, every little girl's dream.

When starting the ballet class you need to make sure you have the right supplies and enough of them. You will need tights, a leotard, and ballet slippers. In all honesty it's a good idea to have multiples of these things in case one gets ruined, or you just don't have time to wash it. You might want to consider getting a short sleeve leotard and a long sleeve leotard. Different colors of tights might also be fun. A dancer's muscles work better if they are warm so invest in some leg warmers as well. Little girl's love these anyway so they'll just add to the magic of the outfit. Make sure you talk to the dance instructor. She will let you know if there are any uniform requirements, colors, etc.

Aside from the clothing, you will also need first aid supplies such as band aids, ice packs, and something to wrap tightly around the leg or arm in the event of a pulled muscle or cramp. The ice packs will be helpful for sore toes and sore muscles after being worked out. As with any physical activity, ballet has the potential for accidents to happen, so be prepared.

When recitals and performances come around you will want to be prepared with a small sewing kit. Ballet outfits are often glittered with sequins and ribbons. Sometimes these things fall off. So if you have a sewing kit handy you can fix any potential outfit mishaps, making sure your little dancer looks lovely and perfect on stage.

Don't forget to make sure she has plenty of water and maybe some granola bars or other protein or fiber rich food. Any form of physical activity causes the body to sweat and lose some of its hydration. To stay healthy she needs the water. Physical activity also has a tendency to make people hungry, so keeping food handy will help her as well.

Your little ballerina's ballet class will be fun and exciting for her. Put the items mentioned above into a cute backpack and call it her ballet kit. She'll love it and you can rest easy knowing you're prepared for whatever might come your way.
