Being Inactive As You Age Can Be Your Worst Enemy

By the time most people, male or female, reach the age of forty, they really begin to feel that age and a lot of times instead of trying to keep moving, they will slowly but surely become less and less active. Unless there is some real physical reason that you can not be active, you should do your best to not let your age bother you. Sometimes the way you feel is more in your mind than your body. Of course, if you do feel really tired and sluggish for a abnormal period of time, you should always consult with your family doctor to make sure it is just a little age and not something more serious.

Sometimes the very best thing for feeling sluggish is to do a different kind of activity. Stress from a long, hard week at work can make you feel even more exhausted and you think you need more sleep, while sometimes that might be true, sometimes getting outdoors and engaging in some sort of physical exertion that you do not do the rest of the week can make you feel better. Playing a game of tennis with a friend, taking a light jog or just going for a long walk can give you a new burst of energy.

Just remember that you should not over do it when you are not accustomed to any exercise at all, but get into it gradually. Especially when you are getting a little older, it can be easier to pull a muscle or even break a bone if you are in the early stages of osteoperosis, although this does seem to be more common in women. You should not try to do all of your weekly exercise in one day. Learn to spread out your additional physical activity through out the week even if it is just half an hour or so at a time.

Making sure you do drink plenty of water and eat a well balanced diet is more important than many of us take that seriously. Lowing your fat and calories can go a long way in helping keep your cholesterol under control and make you feel as good as you should. Your diet should be something you always keep tabs on. It is ridiculous for people around the age of forty to begin acting like they are seventy. At forty years old most of us are only half way through out life, so why start acting like you are closer to the end of than you really are?
