Beijing boasts of numerous tourist attractions of which the historical attractions tops the rest. One such attraction is nestled in Chaowai area in Beijings Chaoyang District, a Taoist temple dedicated to the God of Mount Tai and is known as the Dongyue Temple.

Dongyue Temple was founded in the year 1319 and has been built in phases and renovated many times in the past. In 1996 the temple was officially declared as a national treasure and has been highly protected by the government since then.

This temple spans over a land of more than four acres, nestling three main courtyards dotted with over a 100 beautifully carved stone tablets. Some of these stone tablets can be traced as far back as Yuan Dynasty, the era from late 13th century to mid 14th century. Highly protected by the government as a National Key Cultural Relic, Dongyue Temple houses one of the top museums in Beijing. This is Beijings premier museum for folk customs, the Beijing Folklore Museum.

The most amazing spectacle here is the many chambers encircling the courtyards. Portrayed beautifully with vivid dioramas and statues, they invite you to explore the 76 departments of the supernatural world of the Taoist.
