Health insurance is something that many people are struggling to afford these days. With the many ways in which the health care system has been reformed one would think that this would be lowering the cost of health insurance premiums for consumers but no such luck. And with the rising cost of everything from gas to food more people are considering canceling their health insurance coverage in order to better be able to afford the other expenses of daily life but this is a risky game of chance.

Maintaining your health care should be considered one of your essentials. The additional expense might be deceiving you into thinking you cannot afford this essential, but this very valuable protection is solid, especially if you every have to rely on it, in emergencies as anyone who doesn't have health insurance readily understands and knows the value of health insurance.

Sure it allows you to visit the doctor with only a minimal co-pay when you get sick but this is a minimal benefit that most people take for granted. If you are living without health insurance, however, then you are more likely to wait too long to go to the doctor very simply because you are worried about the additional expense and this can make your out of pocket expense much more costly in the long run. Waiting to have a symptom looked at can create a more serious and more expensive health risk.

In addition to this if you were to be hit by a serious illness during a period of time when you are uninsured then you are likely to find financial hardship and even if you think that you don't have anything to lose it is very likely that you have more to lose then you think. Racking up medical bills and being denied lifesaving treatments can be devastating.

Before you drop or consider dropping your health insurance completely, you should ponder the consequences of your decisions. You can always raise your deductible to lower your premium costs. However if you are frequent patient at your doctors office, it can still be pricey, but it will still offer some financial relief over the short haul and offer some much treasured peace of mind knowing you are protected, in case of some devastating emergency. This also is usually never the perfect answer you seek, but it could easily keep the financial wolves at bay and keep your whole world from crumbling.
