Before You Buy Any Herbal Remedy - Know What To Look For

By:

For thousands of years, getting the right herbal remedy for an ailment was a process. Sometimes, herbs of a particular sort could be out of season, or just not available in your area of the world. It would take sometimes great efforts to procure all the necessary ingredients, and making the remedy itself could take time as well.

These days, you just surf the internet a bit, visit one of many websites that sell herbs, natural supplements, etc and just order up what you want. 2 days later, it can be sitting at your door, ready for you to use and fix any ailment you currently have...right?

Well...not necessarily. The quality of the herbal supplement/tincture/etc is going to depend on what the active compound is, and how much of that compound is actually in the product you buy.

For example, there is a herb, horse chestnut, that is commonly used to treat varicose veins. It has been independently verified via research, and it is the most commonly prescribed medical treatment for varicose veins in Europe. The active "ingredient" AKA compound that the body uses to minimize varicose veins is Aescin. It seems to block the enzyme that can destroy capillary cellular walls.

The problem is...if you had no knowledge that the most important compound was Aescin, you could mistakenly buy a product that contained little or no Aescin in it...or even get one without Aescin at all!

So, you could end up spending money on an herbal remedy that would have no chance of treating your varicose veins, because there was nothing in the pill you were taking to treat varicose veins.

And there is another, more problematic aspect of buying herbal remedies without knowing their active compounds. It's possible to order a herbal treatment that has none of the actual compound you need, but has another substitute herb that could even be dangerous in large amounts. Although this is an extreme example, it can happen, and therefore you need to know exactly what natural compound your body needs.

This is just one example, but this is becoming a bit of a problem with all the low-quality manufacturers around. So be positive that when you buy a herbal remedy or supplement, you know what active compound is in it, and that you can get this compound in a high enough concentration to be effective.
