Before You Begin Your Roof Project

Roofing and siding Jobs often require tearing off old shingles or siding. This is not a complicated job, but is hard labor, dusty, and most of the time a very duty job. You have to dispose of all the debris from this job. It will have to be load and haul to a landfill, or you will have to pay someone else to do it.

Plan ahead, find out about your local landfill's policies regarding common building material. Environmental safety concern complicate removal of some products. For example, in the 1950s, fiber cement siding contained asbestos. This can become a problem to you if your home has this type of siding because now the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and most states regulate asbestos disposal. If your home is from this time, the best thing to do is to call an Asbestos Abatement or Waste Disposal Hazardous professional.

There may be other structural repairs that are not possible to notice until you remove completely the roofing or siding. If you do not budget a little extra for this unexpected repairs, you will be able to finish in time and more important with a loan that you did not planned.
Replacing the roof on a home could double the budget and timeline of a project. Is important to check the roof deck from the attic first. In some instances revising the roof deck from the inside could reveal that the decking will need to b replace, in others it might look like is fine but when the shingles are remove there could be serious damage.

For siding, remove pieces along the bottom and at several other heights on one side or on a back wall to check for sheathing.

Whether you do it yourself or you decide to hire a professional contractor, roofing and siding a tough on the greenery around your home's foundation. Even with the best of intentions, flowers will get stomped and shrubs will get damage. Cover them up with tarps or light-color sheets to try and minimize the damage.

If you decide to hire a professional contractor to do the work for you, you will not have to worry about the landfill restrictions, the dusty, hard labor, or to cover the shrubs. Your main responsibility will be to find a contractor that will do all of those things for you and to make sure they complete job respecting the sign contract.
