Parrots are highly intelligent, which allows them to respond sensitively to kindness and attention from humans. Parrots can even be toilet trained! Mostly, if you want your parrot to be that friendly, sociable bird you have dreamed of, it will take training. Training will need to begin as soon as you buy your parrot, so doing research ahead of time would be very beneficial. Just like with training children or other animals, consistency is what works. Make sure you know how to train the bird and what you are going to do exactly before you buy your parrot. That way you can start off on the right foot and keep running with it.

Next, in order to have the happiest bird possible, you will need to consider the living accommodations that you have for the bird. Just like with humans, if a bird is living in a cramp and uncomfortable space, the quality of life that the bird will have decreases. Remember, parrots are not a domesticated animal. They are wild animals that we keep as pets. Because they are wild, they need to spread their wings and fly! For that reason, it is important to look for large parrot cages.

Parrots are also used to being in flocks, which means they are very social animals. You need to give your parrot enough attention each day to fulfill those social needs. And do not forget about the exercise! Dogs are not the only pets that need it. Your parrot will need flying time, things to climb on, and situations that keep it active and alert. Parrot toys can be important for development and exploration as well.

Parrots can be wonderful pets, but do not think that they need any less attention and love than a dog would. They need space, exercise, and activity to stay happy and healthy.
