Become A Work-at-home Customer Service Rep

By:

Customer service jobs is one of the fastest growing work-at-home job opportunities today. More and more companies are out-sourcing their customer service support to companies that use home-based workers. A quality headset, land line phone, high speed Internet, and a pleasant voice and personality is all many of these positions require. However the competition is fierce. Companies with work-at-home customer service jobs receive hundreds of applications a day. Here's how you can compete and get a home-based customer service job.

1. Have a helping attitude. While some customer service jobs entail order taking, others are customer or technical support, which can involve talking to people who are frustrated or angry. You need to be able to maintain your composure and always act in a professional manner when dealing with consumers.

2. Install land line phone service if you don't already have it. Most companies won't accept employees who only have cell phones.

3. Obtain high speed Internet access, which in most cases is required for a customer service job. Dial up and satellite are either too slow or not reliable enough.

4. Buy a quality headset. Using a head set keeps your hands free while you enter data on your computer. It can also cancel out exterior noises to help you focus on the job.

5. Have a designated area to work uninterrupted. Customer service employers will want to know that you have a quiet space for working and that if you have children, they are being cared for by someone else while you're working.

6. Put together a quality resume or professional responses to an application. This is crucial to setting yourself apart from other applicants. Tailor your submission to the employer. For example, if the job is with hotel reservations and you have experience in hotel reservation, be sure to point that out in your application.

7. Search for customer service jobs on job search engines or on telecommuting job sites. While most customer service job announcements are legitimate, you should do research to weed out possible scams. Any company that asks for money to hire you, or wants you to buy a specific software or equipment from their company only should be avoided. You may be asked to pay for the background check, which is appropriate.

There are many companies that are hiring customer service, technical support, and home-based agents. But to get hired, you need to have the right attitude, the necessary equipment, and a professional resume or application.
