Bearing The Cross - The Real Silent Witness Program

By:

We live in a strange time, when we are supposedly more free to express ourselves, and at the same time so bound by political correctness that a lot of what we would talk about is considered off limits. With some topics, I can understand that, and they were taboo in public long before the whole movement towards political correctness began, but the thing that baffles me the most is the unwritten prohibition on talking about matters of faith and religion.

I'm not talking about blatant proselyting; that can be annoying and awkward in many situations, but it's come to the point where even just expressing a religious preference can lead to open persecution, especially when that faith is Christianity. A recent news report showed that when typing in words about Islam and other faiths, the predictive search terms, those terms that show up while you are typing in a search, are overwhelmingly positive except when it comes to Judaism and Christianity.

It's so odd that being a Bible believer can be seen as out of touch, especially in a nation that was founded by Bible believers, looking for a place to live the fullness of their religion unhindered, but it only proves the word of the Bible; after all, Jesus did say it would come to this, so even the people that reject and fight against Him only serve to prove the truthfulness of His word. I've discovered that they really hate to have that pointed out to them.

So, in thinking of ways that my family and I can share our faith without being obtrusive, I thought it might be a good idea to buy everyone some cross necklace jewelry. I think that would be pretty effective, because it would show people where we stand without having to express it in words. Other believers will make themselves knows, and those who feel called to believe will be inspired to ask about our faith. At the same time, this silent witness will confound those opposed to our faith because it will put them in the position of having to speak first.

They will be the ones that are seen as annoying and offensive for picking the fight, and if they do muster the courage to take the first shot, we can easily shut them down by saying that we really would rather not discuss it with them if they are only looking for a fight. Think of it as a challenge with a built-in preemptive turning of the other cheek!
