How to keep bearded dragons crickets from going bad, rotting, and stinking up the house. The one problem I found with raising my bearded dragon was spending so much money on crickets, not because he eats all of them it is because they die before he can. Once about 10 crickets die the smell is almost unbearable. However this can be used for any cricket eating exotic pet.
First solution I could have fed all the crickets to my beardie in one serving. A bearded dragon is a bottomless pit, as long as you feed them they will eat, especially worms and crickets. That however would spoil him from eating his veggies.
So I would buy about 10 dollars worth of crickets, 15 cents or so each. I bought so many because half would die and rot, and I could atleast feed him half before they all were wasted. Yea that would get expensive, all that money wasted, out of 10 dollars I probably would feed him 4 to 6 dollars worth.
So the problem you are facing: crickets die, rot, and then smell, and money is wasted.
Solution: I buy 10 dollars worth of cirkets. I remove everything out of the container. In all containers there is a egg crate and a water gel. I take all these outs. Only thing left in the container is crickets. I then freeze the crickets. When I want to feed crickets to my beardie I grab about 10 crickets, put them in a bowl, at room temperature for about an hour. They thaw out and my beardie loves them.
- the crickets dont go bad. So they dont rot or smell - my beardie gets the same nutrition because the crickets are gut loaded. If I need to I still can dust the crickets with repitvite - if you want to buy your crickets in bulk you can do this, and again they will not go bad. - you will not have hundreds of crickets chirping all night. - this way is much cheaper then paying for freeze dried crickets in a jar.
