Be Like Flat Corn Says Psychic Elizabeth

One of the best ways to be in life is to be like flat corn. Those of you from the country or who farm know exactly what Im talking about. For you city folk, heres a quick lesson in farming 101. If strong winds and/or a bad storm come along, you will come out after its over to flat corn. Wind, hail, bad rains, etc. will often lay your corn flat down on the ground. These big tall stalks will be completely laid over and you will have flat corn.

The first time I saw it happen, I was very young. I had been helping Momma in the garden all summer long. When I went to see what the prior nights storm had done to the garden, I saw that we had flat corn. I ran screaming to Momma. She explained to me, if we just leave it alone, it will pop right back up. I waited and waited. I would go swimming and come back and check. I would go play and then come back and check. It happened just like Momma said it would. The corn stood straight back up. Not a single stalk was broken. I was in amazement as I walked through the rows of corn standing so straight and taller than I was at the time.

I also realized, as I walked through the rows, why Momma had insisted that we plant the corn on the right side of the garden. She knew the winds came from left to right. She knew the corn would lay down to the right and if anything was beside it, it would be covered by the flat corn. I learned that sometimes we have to plan for, and make arrangements for, the storms. I flashed back to that thought a few days later when I was covering the boat before rain was coming. That flat corn taught me a valuable lesson!

For today, lets be like flat corn. Lets understand that storms will come into our lives. Lets realize that some things will knock us down. Just like a field of flat corn, we are not alone. Were knocked down, right there beside lots of others who are experiencing exactly what we are experiencing. Its our job to remember, as were laying on the ground getting pounded, that the sun will always come out. We can and will spring right back up to where we were standing before the storm came. Be like flat corn. Its all part of your growing process. Youll be standing up straight and tall in the sun again in no time.
