Be Kind Should Be At The Top Of Your To Do List

By:

The turn of the New Year is always cause for reflection. How did you do last year? What do you want to improve upon? Whether it is May, August, or January it is always a good time to take stock of how you treat people, where your life is heading and what you want to change to make things better for those around you and yourself.

January is typically the resolution month. The gyms across the country fill up with enthusiastic exercisers that last approximately one month. Going to the gym in January is painful, but don't fear they will all be gone by Valentines Day. Why don't people keep resolutions they so sincerely made on January 1st? The reasons are many from lack of discipline, lack of motivation, and complacency to making unrealistic resolutions in the first place. What are goals that you can make and keep?

While reading an article recently on things to do list, there was an interesting commentary by a reader. She says she always starts every do-to list with "be kind". What a brilliant ideology. If everyone started their daily, weekly, monthly or yearly list of things to do with "be kind" what a wonderful world we would live in. No matter what else you accomplish, kindness has to be number one. No one cares if you are the CEO of your company if you are a selfish, egotistical brute, you won't be liked and no one will care if you succeed or not. In fact, they will wait and hope to watch you fail. But the janitor who is kind to the people who work in the building, who does his/her job with pride, who goes out of their way to make things better for others is valued and appreciated.

Before the New Year came Christmas with its myriad of gift giving from aftershave balm to IPads and fruitcake, but with those gifts, hopefully, came the gift of kindness and love. A fruitcake given with love means more than a resentfully given IPad. And everyone knows that fruitcake and aftershave is always appreciated.

It might be a New Year, it might be the summer, but if "being kind" is at the top of your resolutions, your goals and your aspirations for the new year or this week, your life will change for the better and you will be surprised at the number of acquaintances who become live long friends. Don't give up on this resolution after a week or month, don't be those gym goers who only last until Valentines Day, continue to be kind until your last breath.
