Be Happy - Make A Wish Come True

By:

Its right there in the second sentence of the U.S. Declaration of Independence: the unalienable right to pursue happiness. Yet somehow, many people have no idea how to accomplish this. Some think that they are supposed to be guaranteed happiness, but nobody can guarantee happiness.

Many people think that the accumulation of things will make them happy: the next new car, a bigger house, and fancier clothes. Unfortunately, it just doesnt work. Look how unhappy the wealthy often are. Money cant buy happiness, unless you are Donald Trump who reportedly said, The people who say money cant buy happiness dont know where to shop. I really think it is the business of making money that Mr. Trump finds so enjoyable.

Once a person has his basic needs taken care of and is beyond the poverty level, increased wealth and things bring little sustainable satisfaction. True contentment is to be found in giving to and doing for others. For one thing, it takes your focus off yourself and directs your attention elsewhere.

Everyone has something to give, even the poorest of the poor. A smile or a kind word of encouragement to someone who is feeling low will cost nothing to the giver; however, it can mean everything to the receiver.

If you need help in finding someone or something worthy to give to, consider the Make-A-Wish Foundation. This marvelous organization is focused on making wishes come true for children with life threatening medical conditions. I can think of no better endeavor than to bring a smile and some hope to such a child.

The childrens wishes range from meeting a special person or idol to going some place that is special to them, like a trip to Disneyland. The wish could be for something material like a computer, the latest game box, or a long-desired well-decorated bedroom. The only limit is what a child can dream and wish for.

There are many ways to help this organization. Those blessed financially can donate money to make the wishes come true. Others who are short on funds themselves can donate time and attention by volunteering to help enrich the life of a qualifying child. Others donate automobiles to be sold with the proceeds going to the Make-A-Wish Foundation. Many airlines have a partnership with the Foundation to accept unused airline miles to make the travel wishes of children come true.

To help, you can hold a fundraiser like a bake sale or a rummage sale with the proceeds being dedicated to the Make-A-Wish Foundation. There is almost an unlimited number of ways to help.

Regardless of what your situation is, you can usually find some way to reach out and help. For those who are suffering from depression, taking that first step in helping someone else could be the first step taken to elevate your own life in a positive direction.
If not this organization, find something outside of yourself and your regular life to contribute to. The rewards are more satisfying than anything money can buy. I guarantee that this is the best way to pursue happiness!
