Ever felt enchanted by the city lights of a metropolis as you gaze over its skyline of skyscrapers and other buildings? The Rainbow Bridge in Minato is sure to get your attention then! This unique bridge was created in 1987 and was opened in 1993. It is a typical suspension bridge which connects Shibaura Pier and the Odaiba waterfront in the Minato district of Tokyo in Japan.
The Rainbow Bridge hovering over the northern Tokyo Bay is about 798 meters in length. Although its official name is Shuto Expressway No. 11 Daiba Route - Port of Tokyo Connector Bridge it has been nicknamed the Rainbow Bridge because of its eye-catching lights which emanate from solar powered lamps positioned at various places throughout the bridge. These lights illuminate the night sky in shades of red, white and green, changing at regular intervals, entrancing both visitors and locals alike.
The bridge has eight lanes for traffic and two railway lines. In addition, there is a pedestrian walkway and observation towers with free admission, where many tourists go to capture amazing views of city and the lit up night sky. The bridge contains three main transportation lines across two decks namely the upper deck which carries traffic from the Shuto Expressways Diaba route, whilst the lower deck contains the walkway with transit system in the centre and the main Tokyo prefecture route as well. Travellers on the walkway can see scenic Tokyo city sights such as from the southern perspective, visitors can obtain a glimpse of Mount Fiji and expansive views of the Tokyo Bay, whilst from the northern side, views of the Tokyo Harbour and Tower can be seen.
To access the bridge, travellers can use the Yurikamome monorail line which leaves from Shimbashi. An alternative method of getting to the walkway would be a cruise boat ride to Asakusa from the Hinode Pier.
To witness the marvel of the Rainbow Bridge, travellers can find accommodation in a
