Be As Professional As Possible

Do you remember a time when you can contro the flow of info about yourself? Once upon a time, the amount of information about you and how it could be found was completely within your control. This, unfortunately, isn't the reality you live in these days. These days, people have several ways to find out whatever they want to find out about you. This is tough for those who have "regular" day jobs offline. It's much tougher for people who work on the internet. Nowadays, an errant online posting could mean the difference between closing the sale and not closing the sale.

In this case, what should you do about it? What's the master plan? The key to staying successful and seeing to it that your reputation continues to be stellar both online and off is to be as professional as possible all the time. Here's how you do it.

1. Ensure that every last piece of writing you create is grammatically correct and has no spelling errors. It doesn't really matter if you're simply sending a a short text to someone or writing your sales page. Proper spelling and grammar are crucial. The last thing you want is for somebody to see something that you sent off, slap dash, that's full of misspellings and grammar mistakes. It proves that you have no idea about what you are doing.

2. Never leave email messages and telephone calls unanswered. Keep your conversations and answers cordial, positive and polite. Don't ever allow an online message to sit unanswered in your inbox for over a day. Don't leave phone messages unreturned. Answer every telephone call by the third ring. It's small things like these that show others what they want to know about you and the dedication to your job.

3. React to critique with civility and positivism. There are constantly going to be those who would like you to feel terrible about yourself. But then again, there are people who are going to have legitimate complaints about what you are offering or how you are offering it. Take every negative feedback or suggestion to heart and ask if you could truly make the improvements the individual wants to see without it harming your business. Afterwards communicate with the critic and explain to him or her whether or not you plan to make changes based on his or her suggestions. This shows that you take everybody seriously, not just those who give you compliments.

4. Mind your social media! It's not that hard, while you are within the world of social media, to forget that you're not an average user; that you are representing your business. The folks you are talking to might be happy with an overly casual tweet or Facebook message. If a person happens to see the communication, however, he might not believe that you are very serious about your business.

5. Try to be yourself as much as you can. Nobody says you need to conceal everything that makes you you. In fact, one of the better ways to set yourself apart is to let who you are reflect on your work. Nevertheless, at the same time, don't forget that you're representing your business, so make sure you keep your best face forward.
