A recent TripAdvisor survey has revealed that Bayahibe in the Dominican Republic is one of the ten best destinations in the Caribbean and Mexico for family holidays.

Visitors to the travel website rated the beautiful destination as one of the best for family-orientated Dominican Republic holidays because of its beautiful natural scenery, hotels and activities.

Situated in the eastern region of the Caribbean island nation, ten miles from La Romana, the small fishing town of Bayahibe is home to an array of pristine white sand beaches, lush green countryside, crystal clear turquoise ocean waters and a picturesque harbour.
During holidays to the Dominican Republic, visitors to Bayahibe can enjoy activities such as diving and snorkelling with easy access to Saona Island. The island is fringed with vibrant coral reefs and sparkling coastal lagoons that make it the perfect place to discover the underwater world of the Caribbean.

The islands inhabitants include a variety of birds and reptiles and visitors will have the chance to explore archaeological sites and caves which were once used by the Tainos, the original residents of Saona.

Bayahibe was voted 9th place in the Best Family Vacations category for the Travellers Choice 2011 survey.

TripAdvisor states: For years professional divers have been travelling to Bayahibe. However, thanks to the construction of top-rated hotels, the region has become a popular destination for families. Visitors will enjoy white-sand beaches, a thrilling zip-line dive or explore the breathtaking National Park of the East.

Families taking holidays to the Dominican Republic can hike through Bayahibes East National Park; browse the charming shops in the village where handicrafts, rum and cigars are sold; take boat trips to the uninhabited Isla Catalina which was discovered and named by Christopher Columbus; go fishing; visit a working sugarcane mill; wander the streets of Altos De Chavon, an artists village with a huge amphitheatre; or relax on one of the many unspoiled beaches including Dominicus and Bayahibe Beach.

The town has a selection of family-friendly Dominican Republic hotels and tourism development is on the increase as it becomes one of the most sought after destinations for family holidays in the Caribbean.
