Battle Of The Burgers

By:

Fast food is killing us; it is creating obese people on a conveyor belt. People drive through take their fat injected food and drive through again.

Everybody is aware that fast food is not healthy, but truth is it is actually dangerously unhealthy. As I broke down some of the different popular meal choices, I found some things that are actually quite frightening.

Contestant number one: Mcdonald's Angus Bacon Cheeseburger, this monster of a burger is, if nothing else, tasty, well... and nothing else. This ten ounce meal holds close to eight hundred calories, 790 to be exact, 350 of which are straight calories from fat.

That is a lot of calories for just ten ounces, so with that ratio you can have a little more than twenty ounces of food in a day, which is the equivalent to almost a pound and a half. Also with that ratio the left over half a pound is going to be pure fat calories, which means instead of being metabolized and turned into energy, it is going to be converted directly into fat.

Fat calories are not all bad, for example, what if you wanted extra warmth and comfort in the winter? Well, that's what fat is for.

Wales use it so they can keep warm in deep parts of the ocean, and bears use it to hibernate through the winter. But we are neither bear nor wale, and we have air conditioning and coats so the whole fat thing is kind of behind us now.

In this burger there is approximately 2070 mgs of sodium, that is an entire days' worth in about a third of a day's FDA recommended caloric intake. For a real sodium killer we can add fries and make it a meal, with a medium fry it has about 2340 mgs of sodium.

However, if you go to Carl Jr. and get their six dollar guacamole burger you are going to get about 2240 mgs of sodium in the burger alone. Let's have some fun and add chili cheese fries with that; our new sodium total is 4590!

That is well over two days' worth of sodium in just one meal. You are also getting around 2000 calories with this so be sure that you don't eat anything else for the whole day, and oh yeah, 1150 calories are calories from fat.

Burger King is a good sodium competitor two; there small breakfast meals are pack with the stuff. Just there 550 calorie sausage, egg and cheese biscuit sandwich holds 1500 mgs of sodium.

For a day's worth of calories that would end up as 6000 mgs of sodium. When sodium is consumed in such high amounts it poisons our kidneys and liver.

This can cause kidney stones, lower our ability to metabolize, and decrease energy levels. The amount of sodium they are packing in these meals is ridiculously unhealthily-just a little food for thought.
