Baths Versus Showers When Redesigning Your Bathroom

By:

Interior design is very popular at the moment and many of us find ourselves wanting to redesign our bathrooms. It makes sense that this is often one of the first rooms redecorated in a home; it's a room where people tend to relax and it can also be one of the more time consuming rooms to rework due to the amount of effort needed to ensure a bathroom is waterproof, not to mention all the plumbing that needs to take place.

Deciding between baths or showers is often a difficult choice for people since both offer essentially the same function but do so in different ways. Taking a shower is usually quicker than a bath for example, which can be a valuable benefit in the morning before work, whereas a bath is slower but often more relaxing.

Showers will typically use less water than a bath. Though this will be dependent on the showerhead used and the time spent in there, an average shower is more water efficient thus saving you money. The quickness of a shower is also a definite advantage over a bath - if you're in a hurry to go out, be it running late for work or going out in the evening, taking a shower is the quick solution to getting clean.

The biggest advantage offered by baths is the relaxation aspect of them. Taking a long, warm bath is a very relaxing thing to do and many people will often take a book and some music in with them and end a long day by soaking in the tub for half an hour to forget their troubles. This can greatly aid in the reduction of stress, giving baths a definite health advantage over showers. They are also regularly credited with helping to clear colds and sore throats as breathing in the warm steam is an excellent way to clear congested lungs.

When redesigning a bathroom, many people consider the bath the focal point and will choose one and design the room around it rather than the other way around. Though there are ways of designing a room around a shower - wet rooms, for example - it is far simpler and less costly to base a room around a bath.

Ultimately, the choice between the two will be a personal one rather than following any hard and fast rules. If you are regularly in a hurry to get out, a shower will be the better choice, if you find yourself stressed at the end of the day and needing a way to unwind, a bath could be the perfect solution.

With most providers offering a wide range of both baths and showers, choosing the right style of either for your newly redecorated bathroom is easier and more affordable than ever.
