Bathroom Furniture Aftercare And Maintenance - Bath Panels

By:

Whatever the construction of your new bath panels, they should be finished in a way that protects them from reasonable amounts of splashing, spillages, heat and staining. However, to maintain the finish of your bath panels over a long period of time, you should take as much care of them as you do your other bathroom furniture.

Bath panels should be cleaned regularly with a soft, non-abrasive cloth, to prevent dust and dirt becoming ground in and scratching the surface. Get into the habit of cleaning them at the same time as you clean all your other bathroom furniture, so that you dont forget.

Wipe up water from the surfaces of your bath panels after bathing or showering, and wipe up as quickly as possible any other spillages which might occur, to reduce the likelihood of stains to your bathroom furniture. Keep heat sources away from your bath panels. If you love an atmospheric, candlelit bath, try not to allow the candle wax to drip down the sides of your bath as the combination of heat and colour from the wax will not do bathroom furniture any good at all. It will ruin your relaxing bath if you have to leap out to clear up hot wax spills, too: invest instead in some lantern style candle holders or deep candle plates!

Try not to kick your bath panels. Many people are in a hurry as they rush through the bathroom each morning, and they will walk up to the side of the bath too quickly, misjudging the distance and kicking the sides of the bath. Avoid leaning heavy objects against the bath panels too: they arent designed to support weights and will inevitably begin to show the strain sooner or later.

The joints where your bath panels meet the wall will be covered with a run of waterproof sealant: you should keep an eye on this, keep it clean (without scrubbing heavily or with an abrasive cloth, as this will cause it to degrade faster) and replace it when it becomes worn. Veneered bath panels, like veneered bathroom furniture, may have a surface coating such as wax, oil or polyurethane to protect against water damage. Polishing this periodically with the correct kind of polish for the type of finish will extend the life of the coating and therefore the life and good looks of the bath panels.

You will find, over time, that bathroom furniture materials may mature in colour. This is a normal aging process which will vary depending on the colour tone of the materials to begin with: lighter toned materials will alter in appearance both more markedly and more quickly than darker toned materials. You can help mitigate the effects of aging on your bath panels, as on your other bathroom furniture, by shielding them from direct sunlight.
