Have you created your own website but don't know how to supply your URL to website then go through this article, which provides you information about basics of search engine submissions.

The written definition of the search engine submission is : the act of supplying URL of your website to a search engine to make the search engine aware of your site or page.

Generally submitting a website or page to search engine involves adding the URL of your website or page. Some times search engines ask for name, or email address and additional contact information along with the URL.

Policies of the search engine submissions vary with various search engines. Some of them mainly ask for the URL of the site thinking that rest of the site is attached, but few other search engines want the website owner to submit the individual pages. Some search engines has tried to discourage the bulk submission of the URL, to decrease the spamming.

There are two main ways of submission of pages or sites to the search engines:

- Manual Submission
- Automated Submission

In manual submission, you need to submit the pages or sites by adding URL pages and filling out the forms individually. Every time you add a page or a site you should fill a form of related information. This is very time consuming as it takes lot of time to post the pages of the site individually. You will not find any problem, if you have very less pages to publish. But if the numbers of pages are more then you will find it very irritating.

In Automatic submission, you can submit all the pages and sites just by filling form one time through out the process. The software used by the search engine takes care of rest of things by using the information provided the person submitting the website.

Most of the people get confused with the search engine submission and the search engine optimization. These two are completely different, just submitting your website into the search engine doesn't increase the search engine ranking of your website. There are some other ways of increasing your website's search engine ranking like promoting your website on some of the popular sites or advertise some useful products.

Even though the search engine submission and the search engine optimization are different, submitting poor quality data on your website does more harm than good. So, if you really want something good out your website see to it that you submit a high quality data with useful content, which can be helpful to the visitors of your website so that they can refer your website to others thus increasing your website optimization.
