Basic Blackjack Strategy

By:

The basic strategy for blackjack is based on the mathematics of the game which is tested through computer simulations. A player could reduce the house edge when follow this correctly. Some times he has to do minor adjustments as per certain rules that are used in different casinos choose. You may found some casinos allow the player to double down after splitting where as some other casinos do not allow it. Sometimes changes are also made to basic strategy for single and multiple deck games.

To become a successful blackjack player one must have the knowledge of basic strategy. Often players learn basic strategy referring through a basic strategy chart. In the chart you are shown how to play the first two cards on the dealers up card. However, as the chart only deals with the first two cards you have to also learn how make decisions after making a hit. As per the blackjack 101 article, the house gains its edge by the fact that player should act first.

So in order to do this, the best way is to translate the basic strategy chart which would explain how to play a hand with three or more cards. For example, when the player has cards of 5 and 3 with a total of 8, he has to hit as per the chart. When he draws another 3 to make it eleven, the chart would suggest to double on 11 but the player could only double on the first two cards. As a result he has to hit. While translating sometimes we have to use words such as otherwise when there are different situations to deal with because of multiple cards. The player should also know how to play in hard hands and soft hands.

When the player doesn’t have an Ace he has to hit when contains eight or less. In case he has 9 and the dealer has 3-6 he has to double otherwise hit. This is same when the player has 10 or 11 and the dealer has 2-9 or 2-10 unless he has to hit. In case the player has 12 and the dealer has 4-6 he has to stand unless hit. When you have 17-21 you have to stand always.

In a soft hand when the player has an ace2 or ace3 you should double when the dealer has 5/6, otherwise hit. With ace of 4/5 and the dealer has 4-6 you have to stand otherwise hit. When the player has ace6 you could hit provided the dealer has not 3-6 in which you have to double. With ace 8/9 you have to stand always and in case of ace7 you have to stand when the dealer has 2, 7 or8; double when the dealer has 3-6 otherwise hit.
