By:

Are you wondering what basement waterproofing is? Well, the main key to a finished basement would be the dry interior. There are many sump pumps and drains that can be used in order to remove the water that is in basements. However, the best idea would be to make sure your basement is waterproofed. When you waterproof your basement, you will be preventing many of those harsh issues with removal symptoms and failed pups. How exactly do you create this waterproofed basement? Well, there are a number of tests you can conduct.

In a waterproof basement, the first thing you need to search for is water that is standing along the edges of the walls and floor of the basement. In many cases, you will come across a tiny spill way that will remove that extra water that is on the floor. This could be through a sump pump or a simple drainage line.

If you are lucky, then you will not find any extra water standing in your basement. You could also go through another test in order to see if it is up to the standards of waterproofing.

You should have a block wall made out of cement that is used in order to protect the basement from soil around it. In order to determine if you have waterproofing problem, you should take some clear sections of cellophane and put it up to the wall. When the next rain has passed, go down to your basement and check those cellophane wraps. Does it show any signs of wetness? If so, then that indicates that you have a waterproofing problem in the basement. The moisture that is on the wrap states that the waterproofing system that is supposed to be in your basement is not working correctly.

There are a number of different reasons why it may not be working correctly. You could always hire someone to take care of this problem and to get the waterproofing in your basement up to the standards. That way, the stuff in your basement will not get wet.

You may also have a waterproof pain put on the outside of the block wall. It should have been put on your wall when the home was originally constructed. In many cases, the waterproof substance in the basement is going to be black. This type more than likely will be a petroleum based product.

You may also find a plastic sheeting that has been placed over the substance. What is that plastic sheeting? Well, that is the second barrier that has been designed to specifically make the water stay off of those block walls. Take note that this method has a ten year lifespan, so you will need to get it redone every so often.

There are a number of other basement waterproofing techniques that can be applied to your basement. It would be best to speak with the one you hire in order to find the best method available for you and your basement.
