By:

If you have a basement in your home, the chances of you getting caught by a flood are possible seeing how this is the lowest level of the home. A basement area is normally used for storage or a laundry area, although some home owners may choose to turn this space into a living area. Whatever you have chosen to do with this area, if you are now faced with a flooded basement, there are some things you can do to take fix the problem for good.

Knowing what to do first is not that hard to figure out, you know the water has got to come out. But depending on the level the water reached, determines how long it takes to remove it. When the basement has been flooded, if the water level reached 3 feet or so, pumping the water out too fast is the worst thing you can do. When it reaches this level, the ground outside might already be saturated and the water inside will act as a barrier to keep the walls from caving in. The ground when saturated like this, puts pressure on the exterior walls.

Waiting a week or so to try to remove the water is the best alternative. When you feel that the ground around the foundation has dried, only then will you be safe to start removing the water from the basement. If the water reached this high, almost everything that was inside the basement probably will not be able to be savaged. When the water has gone, you will see that there will be some nasty looking walls to contend with. The first thing to do is let the walls dry out and then disinfect them to kill any mold and mildew.

This is a problem you just can not put a coat of paint on top of and make it disappear. It will come right back through the paint even if you have scraped it off. Washing the walls with a cleaner will not kill the mold an mildew either. This where you would be smart to call a water damage company to come in and take over.

Anytime you have severe flooding in your home whether you have a basement or not, it is always good to consult and probably hire a water damage company who is trained and experienced with the removal of water from the home. This is not a job for amateurs and when it is not done correctly, it can damage your home permanently.water damage company,
