Baseline Play Meets Clay For French Open 2009 Hospitality Packages

By:

There are four Grand Slam tennis tournaments that are played each year, and the challenge facing every player is that each court is a different surface. The tournament winner is likely to be a player that has the most experience on a particular surface. Wimbledon is famed for a grass court, the French Open is clay, the Australian Open is Acrylic and the US Open is synthetic turf. If you are planning to invest in the French Open 2009 hospitality packages, it is worth doing some research to find out who is the world's number one clay court player.

The reason each court in the Grand Slam tournament is different is to find an overall world class tennis player. Each player can be the master of a chosen court, but to be able to defeat a number of opponents on every type of surface takes a great deal of skill. Because of this, there was some controversy about the recent surface change for the Australian Open. The hard court was once made a synthetic rubber product, vastly different from the other three tournaments, but recently changed to an acrylic surface, the properties of which are incredibly similar to the Deco turf used in the US Open.

This could give certain players an advantage over others, but Tennis Australia defended the change as the new surface is more suitable for the Australian climate. This type of surface gives a medium bounce rate on the ball and is overall a more consistent surface to play on. This is in stark contrast to a grass surface. Wimbledon is known as a challenging court. The grass gives an erratic bounce on the ball, it is more slippery to play on and because of the low bounce it is a very fast paced game.

The clay courts used in the French Open however are made of clay, infamous for delivering a much slower game, but one that requires stamina of a different sort. The high friction means that the game is more strenuous, the ball achieves a high bounce. Red clay is used in the French Open, and players who are serve based, who generally perform better on grass courts, will be at a distinct disadvantage in the French Open 2009. Hospitality packages bought for the tournament are likely to be enjoyed more by fans of baseline players and hard-court specialists. Agassi loves a hard court, Roddick is a hardcore baseline player but the favourite is Nadal who is considered a genius of both.
