Bartending For A Living

By:

Bartending can be a low paying job that is not capable of paying the bills, or it can be a very lucrative career that keeps you well cared for and all the bills paid. What makes the difference? Where you work! Many people try to get into bartending with little to no knowledge of what the position is all about, and they either fail or end up working long hours for very few tips. If your goal is to become a great bartender and make a full living with this career, you will need excellent bartending and communication skills and knowledge of the best paying gigs in your local area.

First thing to do is learn all you need to know about making drinks. There are several really good books, but you also have to take the time, and learn each drink by heart. While you can learn from other tenders, having some basic knowledge is also really helpful. While you can go the long way, and work you way up through the ranks, this can take a long time with little reward.

You can also go online and find complete bartending training programs which teach you all of the required skills in very little time. If you decide to go this route make sure to look around for the cheapest deal and go with someone who can actually help you find higher paying bartending positions when you have finished the training.

You will learn how to skip the want ads and go online to apply for jobs, or even in person at some of the best places in the industry. This is a tremendous help for those who are new, but want to start earning good money right away. You can also go and not only learn how but get paid while you train.

While finding open bartending positions can be difficult in some regions, it is even more difficult in most cases to get someone to hire you right out of school or fresh from online training. This is where a good training program becomes invaluable. They will teach you everything you need to know to secure that first job, starting with how to prepare your resume and find the best open positions right down to how to get through an interview successfully.

Pay attention to the types of establishments a training course or school is likely to set you up with as well. If your goal is to make a full living off of bartending, you will need to aim for a higher end establishment such as restaurant or classy hotel that has an in-house bar. You may even be able to secure a higher tipping position if you are willing to work on a cruise ship and travel.

A program should also give you tips and helpful information about how to be confident. This confidence should not only be for the interview itself, but also when you get behind the bar. It should show you how to maximize your time, so you not only are working less for more money, but are earning the kinds of tips that you want. This is the only real way to succeed in these kinds of jobs.

Once you find a place to learn all of this valuable information and start gaining confidence in yourself, you should find yourself on the fast track to earning a living through bartending. All it takes is long term commitment and focus to developing the skills and gaining valuable experience behind the bar.
