Bargain Electronic Book Readers

By:

Ebook readers offer a heck of a lot of value because they give you more than the abilities of a dedicated ebook reader, along with the most often used features of other higher-priced tablets (yeah, think iPad, of course). They stand the middle solid ground between full-on tablet pcs and basic ereaders because they give you what you need, and don't try to be something they're not capable of. In other words, value for money is what you get if you want any of the following readers.

Pandigital Novel Reader - Not Bad
This Pandigital model reader is one of the best digital book readers as it will give you all the major features, including wireless connectivity, a decent web browser, and the chance to access email. It's far from perfect, but for just $149, it will get the job done. Think entry-level netbook in a tablet format with less than stellar performance. The folks at Pandigital (known more popularly for its digital photo frames line) were gracious enough to include full integration with the ebook store at Barnes & Noble. Overall, its an adequate performer with lots of room to grow.

Augen ereader - Now We're Talking!
Augen should be also be listed as one of the best digital book readers. You actually get more for your money on this one. Seven full inches of vivid color on the display? Yes, please. Wi-Fi abilities? Why not. Not only these, but also an expandable memory card slot, Internet browsing, an included case, and onboad keyboard. All this starting at around $100? Wow. This ereader wants to get your attention, and it deserves heavy consideration, especially after coming from the Pandigital unit.

Sony Digital Reader Pocket Edition: Beautiful Interface to READ
Another highly rated value-based reader, the Pocket Edition by Sony brings in great features at a price of only about $125. It's of a small form factor that's compact enough to shove into a pocket or purse. Even though it is petite, there is plenty of room to read your favorite author's tales on an ample five inch screen. Sony, as you know, pretty much has a strong history in the display department, and that continues to show with this being one of the best digital book readers on the market in our opinion. The text is nicely viewable, with crystal clear fonts. This doesn't have any features per se, but it does an outstanding job of giving you an interface which just makes reading a pleasure.

SKYTEX Primer Color Reader/Player: It does Movies!
Marketed as a reader and media player, it knows what it wants to be. Listen to music? Certainly. You can play movies on this thing? Yes, sir. Just be sure to take advantage of that maximum 16 GB memory slot and you're watching Hollywood shoot-em-ups on a reader. Take a look at the included mic and speakers, along with the included earbuds. Use the mic and make a note and don't forget the bread and eggs before heading home. Oh yeah, it carries over a thousand books so you can read (almost forgot). This incredible storage capacity in conjunction with its price definitely makes it one of the best digital book readers.

Getting an electronic gadget that gives you the biggest bang for your hard-earned bucks is a challenge, what with today's troubled but slowly recovering economy. But the models on offer here do a more than adequate job of achieving that. You get an ereader with laptop-esque features, which is tremendous value and worthy of your attention.
