The thermo direct works in the way that the print head uses heat to certain areas of the label to turn the area black. Thermo labels can fade and should be used with items that the barcode only needs to last for a few days. Thermo transfer printers are ones that use a heat sensitive ribbon, which is found between the print head and the label. Heat is used on the ribbon, which transfer the ink to the label. These labels last longer; however, they are more expensive.

Barcode scanners are the products used to read the barcode labels. There are various types of scanner as well with two major models, laser based, and image based. Image based utilizes the ability to capture the image of the barcode, then decodes the information through a process, and finally stores the information or processes it. Laser based scanner use a light to read the barcode label. Laser based scanners are quicker than image based. Image based barcode scanner are a bit more durable however, they do not have a large scanning field only up to around 10 inches. The laser based barcode scanner has a range of around 2 feet, but has moveable parts, which can easily break if the scanner is dropped or bumped around quite a bit.

Before choosing the type of barcode equipment, you may need, it is best to talk with a professional that give you all the information you need to ensure you purchase the best equipment for your business. You do not want to pay money for features and options that you do not need, however you wish to buy equipment that is durable and that will last.
