The city of Barcelona is a major metropolis on the Mediterranean coast of Spain. It has an assortment of history dating back to pre-Roman times and the ancient Spanish buildings in the old city is quite stunning. You can't assist but be impressed by the ornate Sagrada Familia Church with its exceedingly ornate spires. It was started in 1882 and is still unfinished, a bit like many DIY projects! Temperatures year-round in Spain are warm with lots of sun and exceedingly little rain. You don't have to speak Spanish in Barcelona. British, pointing and mime are all well understood. Las Ramblas is the most infamous pedestrianised street lined with pavement cafes and flower stalls. It's a amusement place to sit and have a beverage as it's full of street artists performing conjuring tricks, stilt-walking and mime.

Barcelona has 68 parks including the Ciutadella Park which houses the military citadel, the zoo and a number museums. There are a number beaches which are easy to get to by metro, bus or tram. Barcelona also has a good reputation for its football team. Tickets to one of their home matches would certainly be a winner for a stag do.

Plaza Rial is a good place to locate early on in the stag do. it's an excellent place to find cheap tapas and lots of lager. The Kabul Hostel in the Plaza is a reasonably priced place to stay right in the centre of the action. Cheap eats are also available at the wonderful Boqueria food market. Have it wrapped to go and head out to the waterfront or one of the parks for a spontaneous picnic.


Barcelona - things to do at Night

Like all good cities for a stag do, Barcelona has lots of nightclubs and bars amongst easy walking distance of the city centre. The Tragaluz Restaurant and the Bar Lobo are good places to start the stag do off. The most quirky bar has to be the Wax Museum Bar at the bottom of Las Ramblas. It has a number different themed rooms. In the fairy grotto you can sit on toad stools surrounded by wax creatures. Another room is a "Believe it or not" experience in an upside-down doll house complete with furniture on the ceiling. These are good places for taking a couple of whacky stag do photos for the record.

After midnight, head for the Moog, a House and Techno Club with good dance music hosted by DJs from all over the world. It's pretty small and always crowded but has a good atmosphere every night of the week.


Top Tips

Take the cable cars up Montjuic or Tibidabo Hill for excellent bird's eye views of the city.

Try to get a window seat on the airplane. The views of Barcelona beach and harbour are breathtaking as you fly in.

Visit the Christopher Columbus statue at the end of Las Ramblas and pay a couple of Euro to go up in the lift to the top of the pillar. Good views again of this wonderful city.
