Bank Shots Playing Pool

By:

Pool has been around for almost two hundred years, and ever since the first game people have been developing new techniques and strategies. Today the most common game is pool.

Unlike other games, carom ball or three cushion, pool doesn't require bank shots. But in the game of pool if you want to take the lead, you are going to have to learn how to hit the tricky shots without foul.

Playing the opponents ball first is a technical foul, and this is easily avoidable by simply hitting a bank shot. Bank shots are also called carom shots, and there are two different types of carom.

There are two separate kinds of carom shots: the bank shots and the kick shots. Both of these are going to require similar strategies, but they do have their minor twists.

Bank shot is when you play the cue ball of the rail and into the object ball that you desire to sink. This is probably the most common type of carom shot, but that all depends on the player and strategy.

A kick shot is when the object ball is hit into a rail and rebounded toward a hole. These shots are a little more difficult just because you lose some of the angle when you hit the cue ball into the object ball.

Every time there is contact between more than one there is going to be a slight loss of the proper vector motion. When you play multiple cannon shots your chances of actually hitting them all in the correct way decrease drastically.

So when playing carom shots it is more important to try and hit the cue ball toward the rail rather than hitting the object ball into the bank. Of course there are going to be specific situations when a kick shot is unavoidable.

When hitting a carom shot it is important to hit the cue ball directly in the center. Even the slightest English is going to throw the ball off tangent.

English is the curve on the ball or the spin, and whether you mean to or not this happens all the time. So find the exact center point of the ball before hurling toward a rail, doing this will lesson you chances of failure.

When lining the shot find the center point on the rail by using the diamonds, and aim for that point. This will give you a good estimate of how to correctly hit the ball toward the object.

Sometimes it may be confusing if your balls are different ways away from the rail, draw an imaginary x between the two balls to the points on the rail directly above your balls. Drawing an x will give you a good visual center point to where you should hit the ball.
