In the UK, robbery is the removal or taking away of property from a place without any requirement for force or violence or threat is used. In laymans terms, bank robbery means entering into a bank when it is open and obtains values, usually money by using force or threat. The share of bank robberies in small towns increased from about 20% in 1996 to about one-third in 2002. But it has mostly seen that majority of the bank robberies happen in urban areas. In Canada, seven cities have 30% of all bank branches but 66% of all bank robberies and in the UK also, London has 10% of the nations branches but 39% of the bank robberies.

In the urban areas, most of the banks are near to retail shopping areas and commercial districts because transportation infrastructure is highly developed there. And because of this such banks have high profit targets for bank robbers who have number of escape routes. Most of the bank robberies happen during day light hours which have many witnesses and with the help of modern technology many robbers are caught the same day so, the clearance rate for bank robbery is almost 60% among the highest of all the crimes. According to one of the study, in England one third of the banks at which robbery has occurred in the past will be robbed again within the next three months, while in Florida, one quarter of the robbed banks will have robbery within a week or within a month.

Today, most of the bank robberies are taking place are also called NOTE JOBS. It is a kind of a robbery in which a person simply passes a writing note to the cahier demanding money and this attract as little attention as possible and the customers who are present in a bank during such robbery are completely unaware of what is happening in the bank and the cahier peacefully hand over the money to the robbers and try to adhere their demands but the robbers takes away the cash in small amounts. In the early 20th century, Willie Sutton was asked that why he robbed banks and he answered that because "it is the place where money is".

To avoid bank robbery, banks have implemented many modern security measures like motion sensing, cameras, silent alarms, etc. To know about the vault and safe security measures, most of the times robbers kidnap the bank manager but now the banks have removed the ability of the manager to open the safe. The police have developed new measures to catch robbers like SWAT terms and pursuit cars and Forensic identification techniques.
The police have developed new methods to catch the robbers but still few criminals are able to live a successful life because of the robbery over the long run. Bank robbery is very common and successful too as many robbers are found and arrested.

We should not try to stop robbery by force. Many robbers used powerful drugs during the time of robbery. But we can notice some details about the robbers which we can pass that to the police like clothing, physical characteristics, Automobile description, Weapon, etc. and we should not moreover stare at the robbers, it can result in harm to yourself and to others also. We should keep a thing in mind that a robber may or may not be reasonable sometimes. And be creative, use bodily functions etc. and make sure after the robber has left the building, you should not walk to the area where he was and dont touch anything which he has touched. Involved in a bank robbery and witnessing the robber is a very weird experience. Simply we dont expect it to happen in our life. But we feel humiliated and violated after that experience.
