Bandhavgarh Np In Madhya Pradesh

By:

Bandhavgarh National park is situated in the Madhya Pradesh. It has the highest density tiger population in the world between fifty to fifty six tigers in an area of approximately 700 plus square kilometers. The forest is covered with sal and bamboo trees and there is abundance of water. The ecosystem is nurtured by the rivers Charanganga, Umrar and Johilla and networked numbers of tributaries, rivulets and water holes. This abundance of food and water accounts for such large number of wild inhabitants and floral diversity.

In the earlier period this national park was the hunting ground of Maharajas and they were great shikari. In order to preserve their hunting grounds they banned public shoots there by protecting reserve forest from destruction. However they themselves along with their guests indulged on shoots. However many royalties came to realize the shrinking domain and population of tigers in their kingdoms. Many gave up their guns in order to protect endangered species. This is the reason why tiger reserves like Bandhavgarh are intact in modern times.

The National Park is being conserved under the Project tiger and hence is known as tiger reserve. The population of tigers is sturdily growing albeit the menace of poaching looms large. The tiger is the keystone species while the Bison or Guar has become extinct of late. Another threat that the park faces is from the livestock in the neighborhood. The live stock is a competitor for the food and is a carrier of communicable disease which kills the afflicted herbivores in large numbers.

For trekking the tiger one has to take the jeep safari or elephant ride. Bandhavgarh Park has its own exclusive environment and ecosystem. Safari in the park on an Elephant back provides a good opportunity to see the tiger in the wild. However long rides on elephant back are costly or they may not be available at all.

Other wild attraction consists of Sloth Bear, Chital, Wild Boar, Leopard, Dhole, Spotted dear, Sambar and Nilgai. The bushes along riverside forests and marshy lands abound in bird life. The common ones are Dove, Parakeets, Eagle, King Vulture, Teals, and Black Kite etc. Reptiles include common krait, rat-snake, turtle, cobra, lizard of many kinds. The walls of the fort provide a home for the Indian vulture which breeds on the cliff. The fort is a very old memorial now in scattered ruins.

To the visit this National park Feb to June is best. Best time to visit the park early in the morning and after 4 p.m. For accommodation various lodges are here where one can stay and have fun sightings of Flora and fauna and lots of birds.
