Bali Boutique Villas and shopping are two common features that draw people to this popular holiday destination. Shopping and accommodation are extremely affordable for tourists as a result of advantageous exchange rates. Shopping is a favourite recreational activity and many a day in Bali can be passed enjoying a bit of retail therapy. However, many people question where good shopping can be found in Bali and when bartering is appropriate. Furthermore, lovers of retail therapy question where they can find luxury accommodation that wont blow the budget. Read on for answers to these questions and more.

Shopping occurs in three main settings in Bali which include roadside markets, shopping centres and boutiques. Most travellers like to shop at roadside markets because cheap prices can be obtained for goods that will cost more if bought through Balinese boutiques and shopping centres, or from retail outlets at home. Excellent markets can be found on Jalan Legian and Poppies Lane II as well as in various other locations throughout Kuta and Legian. Caution must be exercised regarding the quality products being sold and the price being offered by the vendor.

Bartering is acceptable and extremely common at roadside markets. In fact, vendors expect you to barter and will offer an initial price that is exorbitantly high to accommodate negotiations in price. An acceptable norm for the price to pay on items from a market is usually half or slightly higher than a vendors initial sale price. Whilst most vendors are kind and honest people, be careful when paying for items. Pay for your item towards the front of the store and count your change. Avoid being led to the back of the store where you are out of view from the general public. Whilst it is rare, tourists have been known to get mugged in the back of roadside markets.

Shopping centres can be found in Bali and are a central place where different stores can be found. Prices in shopping centres are not cheap local prices and are slightly higher. However the quality of items is often better. Be aware that imported brand-name items can at times be more expensive to buy in Bali than in your home country so do your research prior to shopping for particular item. Bartering is much less common in shopping centres and prices are generally fixed. At times there can be a small amount of movement on prices after negotiation. Shopping centres that can be recommended include Discovery Mall and Galleria, both located in Kuta.

Boutique shopping is primarily targeted at the tourist market. It is extremely fun because unique clothing and other items can be found at affordable prices. Seminyak is an up-market area of Bali which offers a boutique shopping precinct. This region is also home to beaches, nightlife, trendy restaurants and boutique shopping
