Balancing Daily Tasks And Relaxation During A Staycation

By:

The idea of a staycation is great: spend your days off in the comfort of your home without having to pay for the travel and hotel fees of a normal vacation. Staycations have generated a lot of buzz over the last few years and have proven to be a great way to save your budget while enjoying some time off of work. But many people stumble across one common difficulty; how can you enjoy your staycation without worrying about the everyday tasks that seem to always await you when you are home? From doing laundry to cleaning up after your kids, these tasks always seem to sneak their way onto your to do list—and always ahead of visiting the spa, going out to buy that new book you've been wanting, and sharing a romantic evening with your significant other.

The fact is that a staycation is supposed to give you time to relax and unwind, not act as a window of time during which you can catch up on all of your domestic responsibilities. Balancing daily tasks and relaxation during your staycation may seem difficult, but if you keep these tips in mind you will quickly clear your schedule and make the most of your time off!

• Clean your house before your stacation is scheduled to begin. If your first day off is on a Saturday then make it a point to have your home spotless by Friday night. Part of the joy of being on a traditional vacation is staying in a clean hotel room, and this joy doesn't have to be lost when opting for a staycation. A clean home will allow you to relax without worrying about the laundry that needs to be done, the rug that needs to be vacuumed, or the dust that has accumulated on top of your television set. Of course you should continue to do your dishes and pick up after yourself (and have your children do the same), but all the heavy chores should be done in advance.

• Schedule your days. If you are sitting at home without a specific task you are more likely to start folding laundry or cleaning out your closet. To avoid this, schedule your time. This doesn't mean you have to constantly be on the go, but it does mean that you should allow yourself to finally get through that stack of movies you have been meaning to watch, finish the book you've been reading, and soak in the tub.

• Take time for yourself. If you have children and aren't indulging in a family-focused staycation then go ahead and let them spend the night with their friends so that you can have an evening all to yourself. Unwinding is impossible if you are constantly dreading the "Mom" or "Dad" that is often yelled down the hall, so let your children enjoy the time with their friends and allow yourself to enjoy some time alone.

Staycations are a great alternative to traditional vacations, but you must be sure that you don't waste your precious time off bogged down by domestic tasks. Enjoy your few days and you will be ready to take on anything your chore list throws at you when you get back to reality!
