Bad Things Good Parents Do

By:

Baby's brains are basically like the Shamwow of information absorption. These infant's brains are absorbing information at more than 3 times the speed than our dopey parent brains.

So what do we do? We sit our child down in front of a television program that is supposedly supposed to make them a genius.

Results from such programs have been varied. Some have been quite effective in what they promise, but others were more or less completely useless or altogether disadvantageous.

Example: Baby Einsteins was supposed to teach toddlers and infants how to speak words. Studies showed, however, that babies who did not watch these videos learned up to two times the amount of words than the television watchers did.

Why is this? Well, as it turns out human interaction is the most effective way to teach a baby anything.

If you want to have a baby that is a genius, give him a lot of attention. If you want a baby that is great at watching television, let the television give him attention.

With the rapid succession of scenes the poor babies simply couldn't keep up. This consequently lessened the infant's attention span, and now we can only assume that once they are old enough to drive they will become slaves to the fast food industry.

Here is the thing when it comes to teaching babies. They don't understand words.

This means telling them detailed and maybe complicated instructions on how they should press a cubical block through a square cut out isn't going to help, but showing them will. If you show them what the square block can do they will pick up on it faster than grandmother.

This is because until they are two years old they have not developed any language skills. They are basically experiencing the constant flow of all their senses constantly barraging their brain, they cannot at this point reflect, analyze or outline thought with words like humans-I mean adults.

So is it good to talk to your children? Yes of course.

They desperately want to learn to communicate like we do, but unfortunately being thrown into existence as an infant has its disadvantages. Speaking to your child with real words (googoo and gaga are not real words) has been shown to develop language skills faster in babies.

So when speaking to your baby try to use words with strong vowel and consonant sounds, but be sure they are real words. Doing this will stimulate memory in language and your baby will be a genius in no time or in as little as two years.
