Bad Pit Bulldog Perception

By:

Let's be honest. We all know that the bad public perception of Pit Bulls is that it is a very dangerous breed. Admittedly that perception wasn't just a fantasy someone thought up out of nowhere. There are some real valid reasons why people feel the way they do about the breed.

A search in Google for "Pit Bull attacks" reveals over 800,000 pages on the subject including some video that only help reinforce the validity of that fear. That high number is pretty staggering and alarming so let's not fool ourselves. As loving as our pit bull pet may seem the breed as a whole does have the potential for improper response (to say it nicely).

While other breeds also have potential for 'improper response' it's often the suddenness and fierceness of the Pit Bull attack that gets public and media attention. When an attack does occur the likelihood of a severe injury or death is possible. While some dispute the locking jaws jargon the true is when a pit bulldog bites down and doesn't easily let go it may as well have locking jaws.

Since public perception is not favorable toward Pit Bulls what should an owner do? The answer is the same for Pit Bulls as it is for other breeds. All pet owners should be responsible including taking the following precautions:
-Insure that the dog is in a safe fenced in area with secure gates and locks.
-When walking outside of secure areas always keep the dog on a leash.
-Owners should train their Pit Bull to minimize aggressive or bad behavior.
-All dogs should have the rabies shot.

When all of these precautions have been taken, there is nothing more that can be expected of a Pit Bull pet owner, bad perception or not.
